With winter here yet again many individuals worry about how they are going to heat their homes. And with fuel costs being so high these days people want to make the most of every dollar they spend. This can be very difficult if you live in a home with very little insulation or a home that is especially drafty. Being a drafty home can make it feel at times like the heat is not even on at all and it might as well not be because wherever cold air is coming in warm air is leaking out as well. Heating the outdoors is not an economical way to get through the cold winter months so it would be wise to find away to stop those cold drafts from coming into your home. You make think that the only solutions to this problem are expensive ones but there are actually a number of temporary fixes that are quite low in cost. Eventually you will want a more permanent and effective fix to your draft problems but if you are just realizing that you have a problem and do not have the money to hire someone to fix the problem for you at this point you can try one of these solutions to keep this winter s draft out of your home.

One useful product that you can buy to use to stop drafts from coming in through the bottom of the doors or windows in your home is a draft stopper. These are long pieces of material filled with something such as sand or foams beads that keep the draft from getting past and into your home. These can be used in window sills as well as to cover gaps in doors. The only downfall to using this as your fix for a draft problem is that when you go out a door you are unable to put them back in place which means when you are away from home cold air is getting in and warm air out.

Another option for keeping your home from being drafty all winter long is to put plastic in your windows. It used to be that when you did this you had to use that heavy plastic that comes in a roll and you had to staple it to get it to stay in place. These days though you can pick up at any hardware or drug or department store a roll of thin plastic that you can tape onto your window frames. With a blow dryer you can even make this plastic shrink up so that you barely notice it is there. Rolls of this type of plastic come in all different sizes as well so you barely have to do anything with it besides put it up. This is a great quick fix so that you are not paying for heating the outside while you come up with a more long term solution. Either of these ideas will hold you off until you can afford to fix the problem permanently.
