Because you clicked on the title of this article, and are reading it now, you likely have a weight problem of some sort. Well, welcome to the most popular club in America today. Two thirds of American adults are overweight, or clinically obese.

And it's not just the fat that's the problem. It's all the other junk that comes with it, from high blood pressure, to cholesterol, and all kinds of other life-shortening problems.

Why are so many Americans overweight? It wasn't always like this. In the old days, most people were generally slim. In order to understand why so many more people are overweight now compared to then, we need to look at two major issues.

In the old days, most people weren't lucky enough to sit at a desk all day. Work meant physical labor. Eight hours a day, five days a week.

And even those among us that can find the motivation to hit the gym once or twice a week, the workout is not nearly as strenuous as people's eight hour a day jobs of a hundred years ago.

The second, and much more complicated reason is that the food we eat today is vastly different than the food we ate a hundred years ago. Before, most of the food people at was very fresh, and grown locally.

Contrast that to now, when most everything you can find to eat has been processed, chemically altered, and filled with preservatives. This can't be good for us.

The biggest difficulty with this is that it can be next to impossible to find something to eat that doesn't seem like it was developed in a laboratory. And even if you a natural food grocer, it can be too expensive to eat on a regular basis.

Pretty much all the food you can find to eat today, from restaurants, to fast food places, to most supermarket food is filled with things that are simply not healthy to eat, and can cause all kinds of health problems.

So it's no wonder that more of us aren't even fatter than we already are. With little or no exercise, virtually no choice in the food that is available to us, we are left with little hope of becoming thin and healthy without a heroic effort on our part.

The biggest scandal is that there are companies and corporations that are literally making billions and billions of dollars every year on food that makes us, and keeps us fat.

Only by discovering how to eat healthy, non processed food, and purge your system of the remnants of the unhealthy chemicals that you've been fed, can you hope to have a thin and healthy life.
